Release
date: August 29, 2013 (UK)
The second film that I have chosen to look at is a
music/documentary film, This Is Us, directed by Morgan Spurlock. The reason I
chose this movie is because it is totally different to anything else I have
previously looked at, and will give me a broader idea about trailers. The film
stars the world’s most famous boyband, One Direction (Harry Styles, Niall
Horan, Liam Payne, and Louis Tomlinson) and Zayn Malik. It also stars
Simon Cowell and Chris Rock.
The genre is enforced by the trailer, as there is a lot of music, singing and personal information about the boys themselves. I would believe that the target audience for this movie would be teenage girls.

Camerawork
Just like the trailers I have watched before, the establishing shot is a high angle tilt shot (of the O2 Arena). This trailer also includes a wide range of different shots, which is the foundation of creating a successful trailer; it keeps the viewer interested. Using the wide shot as the first thing on screen, automatically shows what the movie is going to be about. It will appeal to an audience which is interested in music and boybands.
After the establishing shot, the actor’s faces then flash onto the screen one at a time; followed by snippets of what is to come in the movie. Having the main ‘characters’ at the beginning will attract the target audience of young teenage girls, as these are the reason they are seeing the movie. This then fades to a black screen.

The ‘Tristar’ title shot is then shown. Having this at the
beginning half of the trailer will again attract a wider audience. Tristar is a
very well-known production and distribution company. Being so well known and
successful, people will be guaranteed that the movie will be good.
From then, until near the end of the trailer, there is a montage of different shots, of the band doing various activities and visiting various places across the world. This again emphasises the genre of the movie (music documentary) as it shows you a bit of each boy’s background and what they do in the personal lives.

Sound
This trailer is made up of mostly non-diegetic asynchronous sound and dialogue.
The trailer opens with loud cheering of an arena audience. This specific sound reminds us of the genre of the movie in which they will be watching. This is followed by a drum beat (which is accompanied with a black screen) This drum beat builds excitement, as it could represent the heartbeat of the viewer watching, and the black screen is hiding what is to come next (this could also be an enigma code)
This sound is followed by techno/radio sound effects. This non-diegetic sound carries on for a few seconds. This sound highlights the genre yet again, being radio sound it links highly to music.
After this sound has faded into silence, there is a continuous sound of news reports about things that the boybands have achieved and what they have done recently. (‘People started lining up five days ago...’ ‘The band that lost the XFactor…’ ‘Filling out their entire tour in hours…’)
A dramatic change of the sound in the background then occurs. There is a more subtle sound of a synth. This leads to a change in the mood, it becomes much calmer, as each band member says a piece of dialogue about themselves.
From this point until the end, there is a montage of the songs the One Direction have sung. This sound will attract the target audience, of not just teenage girls or One Direction fans, but people that enjoy their music.

Lighting
The lighting throughout the whole piece is high key, so you are
able to see everything that is going on; allowing you to focus on the main
characters, highlting who is in it, the USPS. There are also moments of strobe, LED lights
due to the shots from the concerts. The trailer would be appealing to its teen
audience because of this, due to the bright colours that are used.
The end of the trailer would leave the audience wanting more, as a
text screen is shown, with the text showing ‘Join the Party’
